Collections
Since 1916, the Columbia County Historical Society has been collecting and preserving treasures that document the county’s vivid story. Now encompassing more than 10,000 objects, our collection is rich and diverse, and includes prehistoric artifacts, paintings and works of art, decorative objects, furniture, textiles, costumes, maps, books, rare manuscripts and much more.
We exhibit objects from the permanent collection, as well as make our collection and archives available to researchers on a limited basis by appointment. Below, explore some of our favorite highlights from the collection.

Donate to Our Collection
The Columbia County Historical Society is the largest archive in the region, assisting countless researchers and preserving our rich history and cultural legacy through the collection of objects and artwork. We consider potential donations of items relating to the history, heritage and culture of Columbia County, including, but not limited to: manuscripts (such as personal correspondence, deeds and wills), photographs, early maps, paintings and artwork, textiles, decorative arts and other objects on a case-by-case basis.
If you or your family are interested in a possible donation to the CCHS Collection, please send an email with your name, contact information, a brief description of the items in question and several photographs of the object(s).
